Melissa Johnson: Loved (cont'd)

I choose my affirmation based on Love because it has been one of my biggest challenges in life.   How to love others and how to love myself.  Many people have come and gone throughout my life, and some have always been there, but never present.  It was getting past the ones that you loved but didn't get it back in return. My husband and my two children taught me how to love unconditionally, no matter ones faults.

When I was diagnosed with breast cancer five years ago, I gave up my body  and my long hair that I "thought" defined me.  It was hard at first, but I soon realized those things didn't matter to me as much  as I thought they  did. I'd rather have my family and friends, all who loved and supported me no matter how I looked.  Even-still, they told me I was beautiful, my kids still called me mommy, and my husband still called me his wife.  I realized, I am the same me and this is when I truly learned how to love and accept myself as I am.   I discovered strength I never knew I had and self appreciation that was somehow lost.   I learned that what makes me beautiful is my heart on the inside, not looks on the outside.  I love the person I am today and the person I am becoming.
